Small 2.9 quake hits near Vannes, Morbihan, Bretagne, France 2.9 quake France Oct 11, 2024 10:14 pm (GMT +2) Just 6 minutes ago, a 2.9-magnitude earthquake struck near Vannes, Morbihan, Bretagne, France. The tremor was recorded late at night on Friday, October 11th, 2024, at 10:14 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 5 km below the surface. The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Ploeren (pop. 4,200) located 3 km from the epicenter, Arradon (pop. 5,200) 4 km away, and Vannes (pop. 54,000) 5 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Saint-Avé (pop. 8,900) located 8 km from the epicenter, and Séné (pop. 8,500) 8 km away. In Lanester (pop. 24,400, 40 km away), Lorient (pop. 58,100, 42 km away), Ploemeur (pop. 20,700, 46 km away), and Saint-Nazaire (pop. 67,100, 63 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
