Small 3.7 quake hits near Mammoth Lakes, Mono County, California, USA 3.7 quake Madera County, California, Nov 27, 2024 12:55 am (GMT -8) A very shallow magnitude 3.7 earthquake was reported after midnight near Mammoth Lakes, Mono County, California, USA. According to the United States Geological Survey, the quake hit on Wednesday, November 27th, 2024, at 12:55 am local time at a very shallow depth of 0.5 miles. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Mammoth Lakes (pop. 7,900) located 4 miles from the epicenter. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Yosemite Valley (pop. 1000) located 30 miles from the epicenter, Dixon Lane-Meadow Creek (pop. 2,600) 39 miles away, Fresno Flats (pop. 2,800) 39 miles away, and Bishop (pop. 3,800) 40 miles away.
