Small magnitude 3.6 earthquake 33 km northeast of Olymbos, Greece A magnitude 3.6 earthquake near Olymbos, Dodecanese, South Aegean, Greece, was reported only 10 minutes ago by the National Observatory of Athens (NOA), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in Greece. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter early afternoon on Thursday, December 26th, 2024, at 3:35 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by the Kandilli Oservatory and Earthquake Research Institute in Istanbul (KOERI-RETMC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.0 earthquake. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.2. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Olymbos (pop. 400) located 33 km from the epicenter, Embonas (pop. 1,100) 55 km away, and Karpathos (pop. 2,200) 57 km away. In Lardos (pop. 1,300, 65 km away), Archangelos (pop. 5,400, 76 km away), Afantou (pop. 5,600, 83 km away), and Ialysos (pop. 11,300, 88 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
