Significant 5.0 quake hits near Glan, Province of Sarangani, Soccsksargen, Philippines An earthquake of magnitude 5.0 occurred only 10 minutes ago 34 km southwest of Glan, Philippines, Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency reported. The quake hit at a shallow depth of 29 km beneath the epicenter near Glan, Province of Sarangani, Soccsksargen, Philippines, early evening on Monday, January 13th, 2025, at 7:41 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 5.1. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) at magnitude 5.3, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 5.1, and the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) at magnitude 5.1. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Pangyan (pop. 5,300) located 28 km from the epicenter, Glan (pop. 24,300) 34 km away, Malapatan (pop. 19,400) 53 km away, General Santos City (pop. 679,600) 64 km away, Alabel (pop. 43,300) 66 km away, Polomolok (pop. 64,000) 76 km away, Maluñgun (pop. 52,200) 85 km away, Lake Sebu (pop. 21,800) 87 km away, Tupi (pop. 16,500) 90 km away, and Koronadal (pop. 125,500) 110 km away. VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available. If you’re in the area, please send us your experience through our reporting mechanism, either online or via our mobile app. This will help us provide more first-hand updates to anyone around the globe who wants to know more about this quake.
