Small magnitude 3.0 earthquake 8 km southeast of Siena, Italy Just 22 minutes ago, a 3.0-magnitude earthquake struck near Siena, Province of Siena, Tuscany, Italy. The tremor was recorded around noon on Thursday, February 6th, 2025, at 12:28 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 6.60 km below the surface.
The event was filed by Italy's National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.0 earthquake as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Isola D'Arbia (pop. 1,100) located 1 km from the epicenter, and Monteroni d'Arbia (pop. 4,900) 5 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Siena (pop. 42,900) located 8 km from the epicenter. In Colle di Val d'Elsa (pop. 16,600, 28 km away), Poggibonsi (pop. 21,700, 30 km away), Montevarchi (pop. 18,700, 33 km away), San Giovanni Valdarno (pop. 16,000, 36 km away), Arezzo (pop. 76,300, 45 km away), and Florence (pop. 349,300, 58 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
