Small earthquake of magnitude 2.9 just reported 12 km northwest of Nice, France France's Military Applications Division - Earth and Environmental Science (CEA) reported a magnitude 2.9 quake in France near Nice, Alpes-Maritimes, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, only 17 minutes ago. The earthquake hit late at night on Thursday, March 20th, 2025, at 10:25 pm local time at a shallow depth of 10. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Carros (pop. 10,900) located 1 km from the epicenter, Vence (pop. 18,700) 11 km away, Nice (pop. 342,700) 12 km away, Saint-Laurent-du-Var (pop. 29,500) 14 km away, Cagnes-sur-Mer (pop. 46,900) 16 km away, and Monaco (pop. 33,000) 19 km away. In Antibes (pop. 76,400, 25 km away), and Cannes (pop. 74,500, 32 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
