Magnitude 2.8 earthquake strikes near Brest, Finistère, Bretagne, France A shallow magnitude 2.8 earthquake was reported early morning near Brest, Finistère, Bretagne, France. According to France's Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS), the quake hit on Sunday, June 15th, 2025, at 4:57 am local time at a shallow depth of 20.59 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 2.9. According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Landunvez (pop. 1,400, 21 km away), Ploudalmezeau (pop. 5,200, 23 km away), Plouguerneau (pop. 5,900, 28 km away), Lannilis (pop. 4,700, 29 km away), Saint-Renan (pop. 7,200, 35 km away), Rd pt des Chataigniers, Rte de Milizac, Guilers, Finistère, France (pop. 8,000, 37 km away), Plouzane (pop. 13,100, 40 km away), Brest (pop. 144,900, 44 km away), and Guipavas (pop. 13,800, 45 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
