Small magnitude 3.7 earthquake 14 miles northwest of Brawley, California, United States An earthquake of magnitude 3.7 occurred only 5 minutes ago 14 miles northwest of Brawley, California, United States, the United States Geological Survey reported. The quake hit at a shallow depth of 6.6 miles beneath the epicenter near Brawley, Imperial County, California, USA, early morning on Friday, July 11th, 2025, at 2:55 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS), which listed it as a magnitude 3.8 earthquake. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.8. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Calipatria (pop. 7,400) located 8 miles from the epicenter, and Westmorland (pop. 2,300) 9 miles away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Brawley (pop. 25,900) located 14 miles from the epicenter, Imperial (pop. 17,100) 22 miles away, El Centro (pop. 44,000) 26 miles away, and Calexico (pop. 40,100) 35 miles away. In Coachella (pop. 44,600, 47 miles away), Indio (pop. 87,500, 51 miles away), and La Quinta (pop. 40,500, 52 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
