Small magnitude 3.6 earthquake 31 km southeast of Ierissos, Greece An earthquake of magnitude 3.6 occurred only 11 minutes ago 31 km southeast of Ierissos, Greece, the National Observatory of Athens (NOA) reported. The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 5. km beneath the epicenter near Ierissos, Chalkidikí, Central Macedonia, Greece, late at night on Monday, August 4th, 2025, at 10:52 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.1 earthquake. Other agencies reporting the same quake include The Seismological Survey of Serbia (SSS) at magnitude 4.3, The Seismological Laboratory of the University of Athens (UOA) at magnitude 3.7, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 3.9, and The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH) at magnitude 3.5. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Karyes (pop. 240) located 4 km from the epicenter. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Ouranoupolis (pop. 1000) located 20 km from the epicenter, Nea Roda (pop. 1,200) 27 km away, Sarti (pop. 1,200) 27 km away, Ierissos (pop. 3,300) 31 km away, Sykia (pop. 1,900) 34 km away, Neos Marmaras (pop. 3,200) 40 km away, and Nikiti (pop. 2,700) 45 km away. In Polygyros (pop. 10,000, 65 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
