Significant magnitude 6.5 quake hits 20 km northwest of Valera, Venezuela late at night

An earthquake of magnitude 6.5 occurred only 5 minutes ago 20 km northwest of Valera, Venezuela, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 14. km beneath the epicenter near Valera, Valera Municipality, Estado Trujillo, Venezuela, late at night on Wednesday, September 24th, 2025, at 11:51 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by The Colombian Geological Service (SGC), which listed it as a magnitude 7.2 earthquake.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been felt by everybody in the area of the epicenter. In those areas, dangerous ground shaking occurred with the potential to inflict moderate to heavy damage to buildings and other infrastructure.
