An earthquake of magnitude 4.9 occurred in the morning on Monday, October 20th, 2025, at 8:35 am local time near Amahai, Kabupaten Maluku Tengah, Maluku, Indonesia, as reported by Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency.
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a shallow depth of 24. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 4.9 earthquake as well.
