Moderate 4.9 quake hits near Balikesir, Turkey

An earthquake of magnitude 4.9 occurred only 12 minutes ago 62 km southeast of Balikesir, Turkey, Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 7. km beneath the epicenter near Balikesir, Turkey, in the morning on Thursday, December 11th, 2025, at 10:06 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the United States Geological Survey, which listed it as a magnitude 4.5 earthquake.
