Magnitude 3.1 earthquake strikes near Bellinzona, Bellinzona District, Cantone Ticino, Switzerland

A moderately shallow magnitude 3.1 earthquake was reported in the morning near Bellinzona, Bellinzona District, Cantone Ticino, Switzerland.
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake hit on Tuesday, January 13th, 2026, at 9:30 am local time at a moderately shallow depth of 43.40 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the Swiss Seismological Service (SED) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.1 as well.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage.
