Moderate magnitude 4.9 earthquake 75 km west of Isulan, Philippines An earthquake of magnitude 4.9 occurred in the afternoon on Wednesday, January 28th, 2026, at 5:24 pm local time near Isulan, Sultan Kudarat, Soccsksargen, Philippines, as reported by the United States Geological Survey.
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a shallow depth of 10. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.9 as well. Other agencies reporting the same quake include Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency at magnitude 4.7, and the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 4.9.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Taguisa (pop. 3,100) located 15 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Dinaig (pop. 116,800) located 68 km from the epicenter, Isulan (pop. 101,500) 75 km away, Tacurong (pop. 116,900) 83 km away, Malingao (pop. 1,122,000) 85 km away, Budta (pop. 1,273,700) 86 km away, Midsayap (pop. 117,400) 92 km away, Surallah (pop. 91,400) 94 km away, and Koronadal (pop. 201,800) 102 km away.
