Magnitude 3.3 earthquake strikes near San Ramon, Contra Costa County, California, USA A magnitude 3.3 earthquake near San Ramon, Contra Costa County, California, USA, was reported only 18 minutes ago by the United States Geological Survey, considered the key international and national agency that monitors seismic activity in the US. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 5.3 miles beneath the epicenter in the evening on Monday, February 2nd, 2026, at 8:30 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS), which listed it as a magnitude 3.2 earthquake. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.3. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in San Ramon (pop. 76,100) located 3 miles from the epicenter, Dublin (pop. 57,700) 3 miles away, and Danville (pop. 44,400) 6 miles away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Pleasanton (pop. 79,500) located 7 miles from the epicenter, Castro Valley (pop. 61,400) 9 miles away, Hayward (pop. 158,300) 10 miles away, and Livermore (pop. 88,100) 10 miles away. In San Francisco (pop. 827,500, 26 miles away), and San Jose (pop. 997,400, 29 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
