Magnitude 6.0 earthquake strikes near Ponorogo, Kabupaten Ponorogo, Jawa Timur, Indonesia The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude 6.0 quake in Indonesia near Ponorogo, Kabupaten Ponorogo, Jawa Timur, only 9 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early morning on Friday, February 6th, 2026, at 1:06 am local time at a moderately shallow depth of 67. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from France's Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS) which listed the quake at magnitude 5.6. A third agency, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), reported the same quake at magnitude 5.9. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc. In Trenggalek (pop. 29,100) located 113 km from the epicenter, Wonosari (pop. 87,500) 119 km away, Ponorogo (pop. 79,000) 122 km away, Tulungagung (pop. 65,300) 127 km away, and Kedungwaru (pop. 80,300) 128 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking. Weak shaking might have been felt in Blitar (pop. 150,400) located 146 km from the epicenter, and Madiun (pop. 202,500) 149 km away. VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available. If you’re in the area, please send us your experience through our reporting mechanism, either online or via our mobile app. This will help us provide more first-hand updates to anyone around the globe who wants to know more about this quake.
