Small magnitude 2.6 quake hits 6 km southeast of San Jose del Cabo, Mexico in the morning The citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake reported a magnitude 2.6 quake in Mexico near San Jose del Cabo, Los Cabos, Estado de Baja California Sur, only 12 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Monday, February 16th, 2026, at 8:15 am local time at a shallow depth of 10. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include La Playa (pop. 1,400) located 4 km from the epicenter, La Choya (pop. 450) 5 km away, San Jose del Cabo (pop. 136,300) 6 km away, and Las Animas Bajas (pop. 380) 6 km away. In Las Veredas (pop. 10,500, 14 km away), Cabo San Lucas (pop. 202,700, 31 km away), Colonia del Sol (pop. 48,000, 31 km away), Las Palmas (pop. 11,600, 31 km away), and Miraflores (pop. 1,400, 40 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
