Significant 5.2 quake hits near Chilpancingo, Chilpancingo de los Bravo Municipality, Estado de Guerrero, Mexico Mexico was shaken near Chilpancingo, Chilpancingo de los Bravo Municipality, Estado de Guerrero, by an earthquake of magnitude 5.2 only 9 minutes ago, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported. The quake hit at a moderately shallow depth of 44. km beneath the epicenter near Chilpancingo, Chilpancingo de los Bravo Municipality, Estado de Guerrero, Mexico, around noon on Saturday, June 13th, 2026, at 12:20 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 5.2 earthquake as well. A third agency, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), reported the same quake at magnitude 5.2. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc. In Tixtla de Guerrero (pop. 22,800) located 26 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking. Weak shaking might have been felt in Chilpancingo (pop. 187,300) located 30 km from the epicenter, Chilapa de Alvarez (pop. 31,200) 33 km away, Zumpango del Rio (pop. 24,700) 41 km away, Ayutla de los Libres (pop. 15,400) 48 km away, San Marcos (pop. 13,300) 61 km away, Tlapa de Comonfort (pop. 47,000) 82 km away, and Acapulco de Juárez (pop. 658,600) 83 km away. VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available. If you’re in the area, please send us your experience through our reporting mechanism, either online or via our mobile app. This will help us provide more first-hand updates to anyone around the globe who wants to know more about this quake.
