Small magnitude 3.1 earthquake 4 miles northeast of Badger, Alaska, United States An earthquake of magnitude 3.1 occurred 31 minutes ago 4 miles northeast of Badger, Alaska, United States, the United States Geological Survey reported. The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10.4 miles beneath the epicenter near Badger, Fairbanks North Star, Alaska, USA, in the evening on Thursday, June 25th, 2026, at 9:23 pm local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data. A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.1 earthquake as well. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Badger (pop. 19,500) located 4 miles from the epicenter, North Pole (pop. 2,200) 6 miles away, Fairbanks (pop. 32,300) 9 miles away, Farmers Loop (pop. 4,900) 10 miles away, Two Rivers (pop. 720) 11 miles away, Moose Creek (pop. 750) 11 miles away, College (pop. 13,000) 12 miles away, and Eielson Air Force Base (pop. 2,600) 16 miles away. In Ester (pop. 2,400, 18 miles away), and Salcha (pop. 1,100, 26 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
