Moderate magnitude 4.2 quake hits 22 miles southwest of Raton, New Mexico, United States early morning

An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 occurred only 17 minutes ago 22 miles southwest of Raton, New Mexico, United States, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 3.9 miles beneath the epicenter near Raton, Colfax County, New Mexico, USA, early morning on Monday, July 6th, 2026, at 3:21 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.2 earthquake as well.
