OP Webmaster Launch Director Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 678,976 Los Angeles, USA	Moderate yet deep magnitude 5.0 earthquake 99 km northwest of Batang, Indonesia An earthquake of magnitude 5.0 occurred only 7 minutes ago 99 km northwest of Batang, Indonesia, Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency reported. The quake hit at a great depth of 546. km beneath the epicenter near Batang, Kabupaten Jepara, Provinsi Jawa Tengah, Indonesia, in the evening on Friday, August 7th, 2026, at 9:07 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.8. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 5.0. According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Batang (pop. 136,100, 99 km away), and Jepara (pop. 1,257,900, 107 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
