Small tremor of magnitude 3.5 just reported 28 km northwest of Cuneo, Italy An earthquake of magnitude 3.5 occurred after midnight on Sunday, August 9th, 2026, at 12:10 am local time near Cuneo, Province of Cuneo, Piedmont, Italy, as reported by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC). According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a shallow depth of 17. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by France's Military Applications Division - Earth and Environmental Science (CEA), which listed it as a magnitude 3.9 earthquake. A third agency, Italy's National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.4. Weak shaking might have been felt in Roccabruna (pop. 1,500) located 10 km from the epicenter, and Saluzzo (pop. 16,500) 24 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Cuneo (pop. 56,000) located 28 km from the epicenter, Savigliano (pop. 16,800) 35 km away, Fossano (pop. 18,800) 38 km away, Pinerolo (pop. 30,900) 40 km away, and Mondovi (pop. 21,900) 48 km away. In Moncalieri (pop. 56,100, 63 km away), and Turin (pop. 847,300, 69 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
