Moderate tremor of magnitude 4.3 just reported 49 km northwest of Nashik, India A very shallow magnitude 4.3 earthquake was reported in the evening near Nashik, State of Maharashtra, India.
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake hit on Saturday, August 8th, 2026, at 9:30 pm local time at a very shallow depth of 5. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by India's National Center for Seismology (NCS), which listed it as a magnitude 4.3 earthquake as well. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 4.3.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Surgana (pop. 6,600) located 16 km from the epicenter, Ahwa (pop. 15,000) 37 km away, Ozar (pop. 51,300) 45 km away, Nashik (pop. 1,486,100) 49 km away, Deolali (pop. 54,000) 56 km away, Satana (pop. 37,700) 58 km away, Sinnar (pop. 65,300) 72 km away, and Silvassa (pop. 98,300) 73 km away.
