The tremor was recorded early evening on Sunday, August 16th, 2026, at 6:06 pm local time, at an intermediate to considerable depth of 210. km below the surface. The event was filed by The National Seismological Center (Centro Sismológico Nacional, CSN) of the University of Chile, the first seismological agency to report it. Weak shaking might have been felt in San Antonio de los Cobres (pop. 4,000) located 121 km from the epicenter.
