Significant magnitude 5.2 earthquake hits 92 km north of Pokhara, Nepal, in the evening Nepal was shaken near Pokhara, Kaski, Gandaki Pradesh, by a magnitude 5.2 earthquake just 6 minutes ago, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported. The quake struck at a moderately shallow depth of 35. km beneath the epicenter near Pokhara, Kaski, Gandaki Pradesh, Nepal, on Tuesday evening, September 8th, 2026, at 9:08 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review the data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their reports. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc. Weak shaking might have been felt in Mustang (pop. 1,900), located 19 km from the epicenter; Chitre (pop. 2,900), 84 km away; Pokhara (pop. 600,100), 92 km away; Baglun (pop. 23,300), 104 km away; and Walin (pop. 21,900), 127 km away. VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update the magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake becomes available. If you’re in the area, please send us your experience through our reporting mechanism, either online or via our mobile app. This will help us provide more first-hand updates to anyone around the globe who wants to know more about this quake.
