Webmaster Launch Director Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 678,977 Los Angeles, USA	Magnitude 3.5 earthquake strikes near Vlore, Bashkia Vlorë, Qarku i Vlores, Albania A magnitude 3.5 earthquake occurred around noon on Monday, October 5th, 2026, at 12:53 pm local time near Vlore, Bashkia Vlorë, Qarku i Vlores, Albania, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC). According to preliminary data, the quake occurred at a very shallow depth of 6. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones because they are closer to the surface. The magnitude and other earthquake parameters may still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data. A second report was later issued by the Seismological Laboratory of the University of Athens (UOA), which listed it as a magnitude 3.4 earthquake. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH), which recorded a magnitude of 3.2, and the National Observatory of Athens (NOA), which recorded a magnitude of 3.4. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage but was probably felt by many people as light vibrations in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Orikum (pop. 2,600), located 9 km from the epicenter; Brataj (pop. 2,800), 15 km away; Dhermi (pop. 1,800), 16 km away; Vlore (pop. 115,300), 25 km away; and Himare (pop. 4,600), 27 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Selenice (pop. 6,900), located 34 km from the epicenter; Patos Fshat (pop. 22,700), 46 km away; and Patos (pop. 16,000), 50 km away. In Sarande (pop. 22,600, 60 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
