Magnitude 3.6 earthquake hits 34 miles northwest of Chase, Alaska, early morning

A magnitude 3.6 earthquake near Chase, Matanuska-Susitna, Alaska, USA, was reported only 5 minutes ago by the United States Geological Survey, considered the key international and national agency monitoring seismic activity in the US. The earthquake occurred at an intermediate depth of 65 miles beneath the epicenter early in the morning on Sunday, October 11th, 2026, at 5:15 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review the data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their reports.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which also listed it as a magnitude 3.6 earthquake.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people or caused any damage. In Chase (pop. 34, 34 miles away), Talkeetna (pop. 880, 41 miles away), and Susitna North (pop. 1,300, 55 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
