Magnitude 4.5 earthquake strikes near Pyrgos, Ilia Prefecture, West Greece A magnitude 4.5 earthquake occurred on Sunday morning, October 25th, 2026, at 7:15 am local time near Pyrgos, Ilia Prefecture, West Greece, as reported by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC). According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a very shallow depth of 5 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones because they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review the data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their reports. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), which listed the quake at magnitude 4.6. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the Seismological Laboratory of the University of Athens (UOA) at magnitude 4.4, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH) at magnitude 4.4, and the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 4.6. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc. Weak shaking might have been felt in Ano Vasilikos (pop. 280), located 13 km from the epicenter, Zakynthos (pop. 11,500), 22 km away, Vartholomio (pop. 3,100), 26 km away, Gastouni (pop. 8,100), 27 km away, Amaliada (pop. 16,800), 29 km away, Tragano (pop. 4,300), 30 km away, Pyrgos (pop. 22,400), 32 km away, Andravida (pop. 3,600), 33 km away, and Pátrai (pop. 168,000), 88 km away. VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update the magnitude and depth if they change and follow up if other significant news about the quake becomes available. If you’re in the area, please send us your experience through our reporting mechanism, either online or via our mobile app. This will help us provide more first-hand updates to anyone around the globe who wants to know more about this quake.
