Hello to everyone!

This my first post here. I was just wondering if there is any service available in Perth (Western Australia), so that someone can turn my TARBS dish from PAS8 to Optus B3 (in order to receive Ubi World).

Ubi World advised me that it will cost around $70 and gave me a phone number, but so far there has been no response.

If anyone can be of any help, I will really appreciate it! Thanks in advance! :-)

Peter

Hi again guys!

The installer came at my home and now the dish is looking towards Optus B3.
However the signal level fluctuates between 30% and 50%, while the signal strength from only 1% to 4%....!!!

I have two dishes at home, the other faces C1 from Foxtel.
When I connect the TARBS box on C1, the signal level is aroun 80%, and signal strength 50%.

Am I doing something wrong or had the installer not done a proper job? *puzzled*

Sorry for the trouble, but I may be missing something obvious...!

Peter

PS Please note that the TARBS box has got all the needed info/coordinates/numbers given by UBI World.

You should name the installer

Then go twist the lnbf to optimize it to B3.

Good afternoon guys!

After a morning full of frustration I managed to get all things working.
I used all the advice here and I really appreciate and thank you for everything!

What really happened is that some time ago, the Ubi-world operator gave me the wrong transponder settings...!
(the previous ones I had were correct)

I guess there must be at least two different settings to receive those channels, and since my dish is a small one, it is only able to receive one of them.

I talked with the installer who insisted he did his job right. Then I called again Ubi-World, spoke with their technician, but was not very helpful and told me to call the installer again.
(In fact, the Ubi-world technician asked me whether I was a subscriber or not, and after I told him I was not *yet*, he didn't seem very willing to find the problem... oh well!)

Then I went back to my PC, searched in the Aus City forums for the frequency/settings of the Mega Cosmos, applied them on the decoder and viola!

Then I called again the installer and apologised, then called also Ubi world and finalised the contract.

Summary:

1) The installer did his job correctly.
2) The Ubi World operator gave me wrong decoder settings (this happened a week ago).
3) The Ubi world technician did not want to help me troubleshoot a mistake created by the Ubi-World operator, as I wasn't a subscriber *yet* (well now I *am*).
4) I found the settings by myself and applied them.

All in all, happy ending, just wasted my morning!

Have a great time everyone and thank you for being supportive, you are all the best!

Peter

Peter,

I find it hard to believe that a UBI CSR would give you the wrong freq/settings as everyone has been working there for over a year now and they are only instructed and only know Freq: 12674 SR: 22500 so they won't know any other freq.

Good to hear that it's all working fine now.

Liski,

I was indeed given wrong settings from Ubi-World a week ago, at a time my dish was not looking at Optus B3. The operator was very polite and helpful, but maybe too helpful, as *another* set of numbers were given, just in case the previous ones (which were actually the correct ones) didn't work.
I do not use the box for anything else, so the settings were not changed in any way since the last time I was given the (incorrect) numbers.

Sorry if you don't believe me, but I really had a frustrating morning and this mistake almost led to an argument between me and the installer.

I would never ever argue with the intstaller if I wasn't sure that I was given official information from Ubi-world.

Anyway, I just want to forget what happened this morning, and if you really want, I can even give you more details and names.

Overall, the channels look GREAT, I am glad I am using this service, but the small misunderstanding could have been easily avoided (even when given wrong settings) had the Ubi-World technician been more helpful and help me check and correct the transponder details (instead of shifting the blame to the installer).

All the best,

Peter

kastellorizo, as far as i know, this might be wrong though, if the tarbs box hasn't hit by ubi once they tend to go back to old tarbs freqs, no matter what u put in.

my in laws using their old tarbs box to watch globecast channels and box occasionally go back to old tarbs freqs by itself.

maybe csr gave u correct freq but box changed them without you noticing it.

Hi ShaRp!

ok, ok I'll put it in a different way.

When I spoke with the Ubi-World tv operator a week ago, we tried the correct frequency (which is on now), and since at the time the dish was not aligned properly (i.e. we could not get any channels), the operator suggested we give a second try with some other settings, different ones.

Then we have three possibilities:

Possibility one: there exist two correct frequencies, both given to me by the Ubi-World operator, but the TARBS box changed automatically to the default wrong one.

Possibility two: there exist two correct frequencies in Australia, but only one can be "seen" by a small dish like mine. The Ubi-World operator had already given some first frequency, but we didn't know that they were the correct ones. The operator gave me a second (wrong for the particular dish only) frequency which I had to change today.

Possibility three: There is only one correct frequency, i.e., the second frequency I was given was wrong.

You may take your pick now!

I am not an expert and there are many things I do not know about satellite stuff, I just list the possibilities.

I repeat, I *do not* blame the Ubi-World operator who was very helpful. The Ubi-World technician though, *could* have been more helpful.

Peter

PS I am mathematician, that is, I like to analyse stuff, so please excuse my long reply...!

I think Sharp might be right as if your dish wasent aligned to B3 and u tryed to scan a B3 frequency then it would automatically default back to the old Tarbs settings
