Hi Guys,

There was a whole heap of discussion about 3100 boxes some time ago but I'm not sure whether that info applies to me.

Here's what's wrong:
The unit comes on and does everything as expected, except that no channels are visible. The transponder (?) signal shows there is only around 10% strength. I bought a TMS 007 which I'm currently using which shows 98% signal so it's definitely not the dish.

My question. Is the unit completely stuffed? Can it be fixed? If it can who in Perth can?

I'd like to get it up and running because the TMS 007 does not have a MDS decoder built in and I think UBI will not support it.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

[ 08. If your dish is pointing PAS-8 just enter Tp:12575
SR:13845
Pol: H
FEC:2/3 (AUTO on 3100 box)

and do RESCAN.

If the box locks on (AMBER LIGHT) you should be able to see two chinese channels (#6, #7) and box is fine...

Thanks guys for your replies.

Dish is currently pointing to Optus B3. With the TMS everything works fine. If I plug in the 3100 then I get "No signal or Rain". As I said, the signal strength thingie says 10% or thereabouts.

The 3100 was working at one stage of the UBI FTA signal but broke overnight so I bought the TMS.

I tried the 3100 again today but no joy.

I'm going to have to check that. At work at the moment...
Maybe it might be better to tell me what settings I should have on the box. As I said it was working for over 3 months then it didn't. I haven't changed anything.

Thanks heaps for your help you guys.

Any Ideas whether the TMS 007 might be usable after the channels become encrypted?

<UBI>
Freq: 12674
Symbol Rate: 22500
22K Tone: OFF
FEC: AUTO
Pol: H

Make sure the LNB cable is plugged into the Antenna socket (the top one) on the back.

These are settings for UBI on the 3100. If your getting the Green light and Yellow light it means it locking onto the UBI signal - If not that then there could be a problem with the IRD itself.

If it was an IRD problem, can that be fixed. How?
Is there a Perth UBI aware person that might be able to help in diagnosis?

Thank you very much for your replies.

There is no Service Centre for the MDS IRDs. If the IRD is faulty then you will need to purchase a new IRD to watch the UBI channels when encrypted.

Call UBI and they can provide you a list of Preferred Installers in Perth which can help you with a new IRD.

[ 08. Hi guys,

Tried everything possible and all I get is Signal Level fluctuating from 0 to 50 and Signal Quality from 0 to 7.
I think my IRD is in fact screwed.

Vader, will work out how much as replacement IRD will cost, since they'll have no warranty and would be succeptible to stuffing up just like mine or whether to wait until UBI have "rental" boxes available again.

Thanks for your suggestions everyone.

wpSlider,

There won't be any "rental" boxes at UBI at this point in time. My own opinion is that I doubt there ever will be.

[ 11. April 2005, 10:08 AM: Message edited by: Liski ]

Liski,

Now that the channels are indeed up and running (and I must say they are very good too!) I am seriously looking to get a replacement IRD. But...

The price has gone up! This one number in Perth (different from the one before) said he had no new boxes, but could supply an old box with 1 yr wty for $270. That's a bit of a sharp rise in comparison to the $150 you mentioned before!

wpSlider,

Call him back and advise him that a refurbised TARBS Decoder + SC is $150 without Warranty. If he does not agree then please call UBI and make a complaint and then I'll take over.

[ 16. May 2005, 12:12 PM: Message edited by: LISKI WORLD TV ]

I decided to get it from Stelatel in Melb. These people here (in Perth) just don't inspire a lot of confidence, plus I already have a broken 3100, I don't want to end up with 2.

I'm in South Lake megb68.

ok my cousin was having the same problem and we used my dish to find the signal and bingo signal was ok....I had to play around with the LNB and remap the channels a couple of times... make sure your LNB settings match your STB settings as well ie if you use a 11300 LNB make sure 11300 is set on your box ....dont know if the 3100 can use a Universal LNB though....

megb68, from previous experience with 3100, they don't like universal LNBs...I don't know if its been rectified in 3110...

I really don't know what's wrong with it, but I can tell you I have the same settings on a cheap FTA receiver and everything works fine. So that rules out the Dish and LNB.

The box was working and then one day it just didn't anymore.

fsking I forgot to mention that if I go into the signal meter, the top bar has 0 and bottom bar fluctuates from 0 to about 7 but no more.
