I have just been on the phone with UBI, "Georgette" was the representative. She mention the new box will be in excess of $400.
She went on to say that if you do not want to swap, will have to pay the full amount. I suppose this is fair, but the she said "If you do swap the new box will be yours to use as lon as you like, we will only ask for it if you cancel the subscription.

So correct me if im wrong, we have just paid $220 for an ex tarbs box, Ubi is forcing us to pay $400 plus for a new box or give up the tarbs box completely and own no box because that take it back if you ever cancell you subscription and be leftwith nothing!

Please explain!!!!

If this is what they are going to do, then this is something I'm sure the ACCC will find interesting, and I'll be more than happy to raise this with them.

"To continue using our service you pay us for, give us something YOU own, and we will give you something in return that you DON'T own, otherwise cough up $400+ if you want to continue using a service you already pay for, or tough luck!"

I'm sorry, but this is a no B.S version of what UBI is telling all its customers, and it is just plain wrong!

RATLSNAKE

[ 04. Well to be fair and hear both sides, I just rang UBI, and spoke to one of the women in customer service, I'm kicking myself I didn't ask her name, and she told me different things. More pleasing things.

She said over the next 2 months, UBI will be contacting all legitimate customers to organise when it is possible for UBI to send out a technician free of charge, regardless of where you live, to install the new box, which will remain the property of UBI.

In regards to the old box, she clearly repeated twice to me that you DO NOT have to give in your old TARBS box. You are more than welcome to keep it, and if you choose to keep it, the new UBI box is STILL provided free of charge.

If this is indeed the situation, I have no problem with this, as it is completely fair to both customers and UBI.

However, seeing as both myself and VCValiant have been told two different things from UBI's call center, Liski, I think it would be wise if you could confirm for us which of the two different comments are true, to put an end to this discussion.

I hope for UBI's sake what I was told is what is going to happen.

RATLSNAKE

RATLSNAKE,

All the CCC were advised yesterday about the new pricing.

What VCValiant was advised regarding $400 was for a full install which includes the new UBI IRD.

No CCC member as of 11am yesterday would be advising customers that they need to give their ex-TARBS to UBI.

If you subscribe before 28 April 2006 you will receive the FREE upgrade if you fail to join before that date then you will need to purchase the UBI IRD and then subscribe.

The FREE box upgrade remains the property of UBI WORLD TV.

The good thing is that the new UBI IRD will also be able to show FTA channels that are on Optus B3! UBI will not be restricting the FTA mode of the IRD.

[ 04. April 2006, 04:19 PM: Message edited by: Liski ]

If what you are saying is true it is good news, but I explained that i was a subscriber and she told me that I will have to give my tarbs box in or pay $400 plus or a new ird. I asked her again if thiat is what she ment and she said that's right. She then sai "you will not need the old box anyway because it will be useless to you so you lose nothing".
I Repeat she said $400 for the box not a whole set up as I explained that I was a subscriber.

I was also told that I cannot buy my own compatible box and use the UBI subscription and she said no I can't. Is this true liski? I thought you would be able to use any compatible IRD2 box as long as it can take the right card.

VCValiant,

UBI will not be selling Smartcard only subscriptions. The UBI STB and SC will be married and only work with the supplied UBI STB.

Sharp,

You can either give the ex-TARBS in or keep it but the UBI STB remains UBI property.

If you purchase the UBI IRD then from what I know it will be your own property.

the company is not stupid because if it was like that everyone would get a campatable box and all it takes is one person to share there card then everyone will have free ubi.
