As you may all know now, one of my concerns with these providers is the quality of the picture and sound of the content these providers are delivering.

I must admit, that I am quite excited out that TV+ will be delivering it’s content on direct fibre. This would mean that the picture should be far less compressed, much sharper and the audio quality should be close to perfect. So Pink+ and BK should have as good a quality as BNTV is on PAS8 (TV+).

Well, looks like TV+ is getting their act together!
@ Satfreak – Any ETA on the delivery of the better quality content? Yes I know that it’s better to have any quality Pink than no Pink at all, but… I want more!

Vlad...

reuder,
well they do have studios, you know
I'm not sure what your referring to when you say "...to start with". Do you mean the uplink?
The signal quality is digital which means it does not inherit noise. The only thing that determines the quality of the broadcast is the amount of compression they use and if there is a transfer from platform to platform i.e. NTSC to PAL.

Vlad...

[ 26. yeah that's what i mean, e.g. the RTS signal was always shocking, the uplink quality was bad to start off with, and then ex tarbs used it. they couldn't do anything to improve it

But TARBS swapped platforms from NTSC (Never Twice the Same Color) to PAL. The uplink with pink and BN was fine but they lost heaps on the translation.
This is what TV Plus say will be fixed in the new year. I expect the picture, going over fibre to be close to perfect. Let's hope this comes soon!

does the end provider e.g. tvplus get the signal direct from the actually content provider i.e. direct from their facilities to tvplus uplink station e.g. Pink etc, or do they get it off e.g. for european channels HOTBIRD 3 etc

It all depends. They could get all channels off satellite in Europe or have a direct connection through fibre to the channel and then broadcast it to the uplink sat from there.

Eg:
For TV plus, it either gets picked up from intelsat Americas 5 then get beamed back up to pas8 from napa in USA or direct fibre to straight to Sydney then pas8
For UBI, hotbird sat to RR sat in Israel then gets beamed up to telstar 10 then signal get piked up in Pyrmont Sydney then get beamed back up to Optus b3
according to a little birdie

The CA's will be a new version of IRDETO. As for the STU's, I don't have that info. Perhaps Satfreak could answer that...

Regrads,
Vlad

FYI Irdeto V4 & V5 will be used...

V5 has just been publicly released in Jan 05...

STB - minimum 2 offshore manufactures because any STB issues or any upgrades go wrong not all customers go off the air..

I would hope that between 2 - 4 boxes get used..

Cheers

[ 03. Yes Big time and the Biggest problem is its there own brothers in Melbourne that will be doing it.
Well not brothers in Blood anyhow that will be doing it.
Mind you everyone knows about the Massive Card sharing servers that the "MOD SHOP" In WA had until the federal Police raided them, these dickheads advertised it in the local rag. Now this Mob in Melbourne are a lot smarter than that. they only do Family groups and each group supplies one gen Irdeto2 card yes pay for one but share the rest. The sky is the limit depending how big the family is.
This effects all Irdeto 2 today.

Big Chief

All boxes will have unique "softcell" (IOS, Software) unique to TV+ platform.

All boxes will be card married to oringial STB - ie - you will not be able to use your own STB, you wont be able to swap Smart Cards between TV+ boxes

Satfreak

All boxes are unique to their own platforms which is somewhat standard for all DTH Pay TV companies. What makes the TV+ platform any different.

Hey if the card sharing system works for the I2 encryption Foxtel platform then I am sure it'll work with TV+. You can't tell me that TV+ will have a more advanced system than Foxtel..

It will effect TV plus more than anyone as TARBS were heavly effected by piracy from the Balkans packages buy this group. And if you don't believe me
since you communicate with Webmaster ask him about the Mystery taped phone conversation about this group In Melbourne and how they are doing it. this is how I found out and this is how TARBS found out.
could you imagine being screwed by you own mob, that hurts even more.

People will do anything to avoid paying even for as little as $40 a month

spending hundreds of dollars on a decoder box and other set up costs to aviod paying a subscription fee.

Satfreak

For a "satfreak" , encryption is obviously not one of your stronger points :)Your quote :

" Yea and when the service drops out more than 70% of the time cause the refresh rate on the keys is sub 20sec lets see them keep with their boxes.. "

Please tell me how this will happen. I can watch Foxtel and Austar's Pay TV services without a subscription card ( I do have one though , I dont believe in a total free ride )and the picture does NOT break up. If Foxtel and Austar could do anything to stop it they would , your sub 20 second refresh rate is simply dreaming.

Any ethnic service provider using Irdeto encryption will suffer card sharing. Its not hard to setup , and even easier to connect to.

if you think it wont happen , you are dreaming

Fred, No, not dumb people, just people that don't understand technology.
Yes I expected this, maybe someone at TV plus told all that there is a possibility that UBI will lose the Balkans channels and this way they are getting ready for TV plus.
The Dreambox works lovely on FTA and when the encryption kicks in nothing will change, forget the latency crap they have tried to shorten the timing and all it effect is the Genuine Customers, the Latency from the uplink to downlink is a bit on the nose for them.
By the way, just to let all know these people that run these servers are making plenty of money, Look at the Mod shop in WA, they had thousands on their networks and charging you for it, could you imagine being late for your Subscription Payment?, which was around 10 Bucks a month for all. They shut your ip for your box off, thats not bad for all of fox/aust and like I said some had sky too, but now that WMI and TV plus are joining the KU circus in Irdeto2 using a small dish this will be a problem.
The big Card Servers are not the problem, its the individial ones that will pop up by the droves. See a typical Son with a bit of brains setting up his Mum and DAD plus all the Brothers and sisters in-laws and outlaws say around 10 installations, one subscribes, the other nine are card shared ( the first thing you do is park their box because after you use a dreambox, everything else is crap for use for the original sub card) so its simple maths. Say it costs you for a TV plus sub for one year at $60 per month Multiplied by 12 months thats $720 per year divided by 12 thats $72 per year thats not bad!.
By the way, pay tv providers have tried to stop this but as quick as they scratched their head, the authors are producing new soft cams for the images at a rate of 1 every two weeks. Some guys have up to 10 different cams on a typical dreambox and play with them to see if there are any improvements.

Sound like TV plus and others are in for a hard time, I bet they never expected this!.
There is a Big forum about to have massive sale of new Dreamboxes soon for the new model, they will be cheap to, i don't want to put the name of the forum just in case if they don't want to advertise it.
All this shit is interesting.
