Im helping a mate out with a monaro he has recently bought from under a tree in burringbar near the gold coast and i was the unlucky fool who said i'd drive it back to Tasmania for him but thats a long story. it is a factory tuxedo black 308 4sp gts 4 door with pretty much all the boxes ticked on the option list with black interior and herringbone inserts with the red stripe. the guys from holden reckon it was most likely a special dealer ordered showroom promotional car but were only guessing as all their records were lost in a fire some years ago and all they could really do was verify that it was a genuine thing. we are trying to find out how many tuxedo black 4 door gts's were built with 308 4sp. Holden didn't know but reckoned they would have been a very limited build. and also if it was a special order was the twin headlight front factory fitted or added later as well as the sunroof and bonnet ornament and boot lock garnish and gold pinstriping. if anyone thinks they might know of the car or someone who does or can shed some light on some history would be greatly appreciated.
please help us restore it correctly.

Yes - it sounds like an interesting car indeed. Having spoken with our Holden History guru; yes - it is most likely that the twin headlight front & sunroof were Holden Dealer fitted options rather than factory fitted options. According to the Guru, Holden heavily promoted the ability & willingness to do special Dealer Optioned up cars back in the 70s. No - no real way of knowing how many Tuxedo Black HJ GTS Monaros were factory built. Would suggest the best history tracking option would be to source where in Aus the car was built, then try to track the Holden Dealer it went to, & then to try & find the Dealer records on same car (yes - may be a very hard route, Dealer tracking wise).
