What can I say, wherever you look today eveyone is rushing. And to make matters worse, my daughter came home from school and had to do a maths test to see how long it took her to answer 20 questions and how many she got correct. So, what is it, its rush versus accuracy. You know, I have been there and done all this. I am over 50 and this disease of rushing starts from pressure from the schools. You go down the shopping centre, everyone is rushing, mainly female shoppers. You go in the car parks, more acts of rushing, you drive on the roads and everyone is speeding and when you ask them why, they say they are in a hurry. This is a disease from school days where pressure is put on kids to do everything as quick as possible. I can clearly see that today most mistakes are caused in all arenas because people rush. In all my life I have seen some monumental mistakes done all because of rush, being in a hurry to complete. Tell me all you rushers out there, next time you catch a jumbo jet and the jet has just come back from a major overhaul, how would you like the engineer to rush overhauling the Pratt/Whitney/Rolls Royce/GEC engine? What would you prefer, an engineer that assembled the engine
quickly or someone who has meticulously slow workmanship? For those who know me, they know I have always been the other way around. I have always been a reasonably slow worker but I excel in being perfect in everything I do, regardless if its my trade profession or anything outside my trade. People today should be taken on a tour of NASA and watch the engineers work on the space shuttle, there you would see perfectionists at work. No room for mistake there. In the last 5 years, I have seen so many mistakes from people that have cost lives and its all because of RUSH, RUSH, RUSH...and unfortunately, this is the disease that is pushed amongst our kids today. We are today producing the wrong type of people.
P.S. How would you like a surgeon to rush during heart surgery?.
Phil
Not Rushing

[ 07. Yes Phil, you are correct once again. Rush and its getting worse, you are from the old school where anything under 100% effort is not wanted.
I always instruct my students at Uni never to rush anything thats affects quality but some times I think I'm bashing my head against the wall. Since I personally know you and I know you are one of a kind you try to perfect everything you do and you do it. Regardless if its cars or computers/electronics/building trade or whatever. After all like others have said, you Drag raced your Monaro for 10 years, you won Mr Holden in a street car using a Holden V8 engine where everybody else used Chevs. You had to be different, you never blew an engine, gearbox or differential, you never missed a gear, the monaro never dropped a drop of oil or water on the track, while others blew their engines, gearboxes and diffs + spewed oil and water all over the track and as for your Hi-fi TV system, well we won't get into that you're the only person on this planet that uses seperate Amps for each channel.
Don't worry Phil, you teach your kids whats right and stuff the rest because the rest are inferior and it will stay that way. I said it before and I will say it again you are a topic in our class room regarding many topics also your attitude against the wrong doing is what I like about you, like your topic on Voluntary School fees, they need to go back to school because they don't understand what the word voluntary stands for and I know what upset you about this matter was you generally volunteer your time and it costs you to help people over 50 years old how to use a computer and the internet. How dare they take the word voluntary and abuse it with an invoice forced down the throat of parents.
You're one of a kind
Steve

Phil's Hi Fi Picture theatre. You have to be joking! Like I said months ago in another post, It's the best I've ever seen and heard. Seperate amp's per channels thats perfect seperation, watch out for the planes flying over. You have to see his train set upstairs it's about 5 by 5 mtrs and has a bridge about 2+ mtrs long crossing a void 4 mtrs above the lower floor in the house (ps the bridge looks like the Gladsville bridge in Sydney) the trains were going around for hours and not one derailment, anyone else there would be derailments every five minutes.
Phil, the people that do things for NOTHING are long gone or maybe you are the last one left.
Pete

[ 29. The magic word again, RUSH... I can't get away from it. I had to take my CV8 Monaro to a holden dealer yesterday (notice I don't mention the Holden dealer yet as I will allow them the benefit of the doubt). The monaro had to go for a warranty job, regarding a slight clutch flutter. In other words, a slight vibration coming up my leg when using the clutch.
Now as most of you who know me personally around Australia know what I am like, I am very fussy with my workmanship, I do not make mistakes, thats why my wife calls me Mr Perfect...just read above and it bothers me to come home after this warranty job to find problems. Because I don't trust anyone, I have always done everything myself regardless if its engine assembly, anything to do with motor vehicles except differentials and automatics, anything in the building game, anything to do with electronics, computers and the electrical game not to mention satellite and digital encryption where most of the above I am qualified. I even perfected tiling, concreting, you name it. I was the first person in Australia to win Mr Holden at Castlereagh drags running mid 12 seconds on a quarter mile with a street registered Monaro with a 308 engine in it. Like said above, I never missed a gear, never dropped a drop of water or oil on the track in over 10 years of racing. I won't get into it how I did all this but I clearly found out that people in the old days never crack tested anything. I would get 8 brand new venolia
pistons and I would send three of them back because they had fine cracks, so I then would get the replacement pistons, go to my mate Wayne Jones engineering test those 3 and it was not unusual to go back another time. Now, I would do this with every component in the engine that could be crack tested. I don't expect any Holden dealer to be a thorough as this but at least I would expect them to put the slave cylinder cap back on. Mind you, I only put my overalls on, got my stands out and my massive floor jack and within two seconds I found two major problems. The other problem I found was oil pissing out of the Bell Housing (clutch fluid). Just as well as this drained the reservoir up the top which removed the fluid with no cap that could have sprayed all over the internal paint work. So, what did I do? Put away my torque wrench and my spanners and rang the Holden dealer back up. Its just a pity for insurance reasons that I am not allowed to supervise my own vehicle because you have to remember that this slave cylinder losing oil could have been easily a brake cylinder and we all know what happens when you run out of fluid there!!.
I will say this again, NASA does make mistakes but very few of them. When they have one of their engineers working on the space shuttle, there is one behind observing and noting the work and ticking it off, and behind him there is another person videoing the work going on. I don't expect any mechanic to do this, but I was bought up to use the roll call method, you do everything to a
certain stage eg fit the fly wheel, don't forget to loctite it and tension it to the correct specifications. Then I would come back in 5 minutes and tension it again twice more. Then I would move to one side and write down on my clipboard, flywheel successfully tightened. I would use this method for everything I do including electronics, computers and everything I do. I do not forget to tighten anything, as much as forgetting to put a cap on the slave cylinder...round 2 commences this afternoon. I hope I don't have to add any more problems to this list.
I am very disappointed to say the least!!! Since moving up here to Queensland, this is now the 4th time I have allowed anyone to do something for me and I have been let down.
Am I unlucky? Or is this something that happens everywhere?
Phil

Problem solved today only question was the Mechanic said the clutch reservoir was 80% full. I said it was 80% empty I didn't want to get into a slanging match but you make up your own mind??? I drove home late yesterday afternoon with NO cover on the reservoir, if it was 80% full how come fluid didn't leave the container and damage the paint work around the engine bay,, Why?? It doesn't take a smart person to work that out??? It was 80% empty,(possible loose bleeding nipple) I suppose the guy has to cover his butt but I think the supervisor was a bit smarter than that.
Got home and spent 2 Hrs under the car, I checked from the Tailshaft to the starter motor and found only 2 bolts 50% loose, the two lowest gearbox to
bell housing bolts, and they're the critical ones too, and now that all is over the most important thing is the clutch is ok. No more vibrations coming up my leg.
P.S. I hope they tightened the flywheel and pressure plate correctly!!! because they are the only thing I couldn't get at plus the two highest bolts from Bell Housing to block. There is no doubt you can only get at them before fitting the gear box.

Phil

They found 2 out of the 6 pressure plate bolts loose, this would cause the fingers to be uneven touching the thrust race, some one on the assembly line stuffed up
Phil
