Moderate tremor of magnitude 4.3 just reported 66 km northeast of Coquimbo, Chile 4.3 quake 30 Jan 10:16 am (GMT -3) The National Seismological Center of the University of Chile reported a magnitude 4.3 quake in Chile near Coquimbo, Provincia de Elqui, Coquimbo Region, only 23 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Saturday 30 January 2021 at 10:16 am local time at a moderately shallow depth of 48.2 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.7 earthquake. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include La Serena (pop. 154,500) located 57 km from the epicenter, Coquimbo (pop. 161,300) 66 km away, Vicuña (pop. 13,500) 71 km away, and Vallenar (pop. 44,900) 99 km away.
