Small magnitude 3.0 earthquake 5 miles northeast of Wichita, Kansas, United States3.0 quake 14 Mar 7:02 am (GMT -5) An earthquake of magnitude 3.0 occurred only 13 minutes ago 5 miles northeast of Wichita, Kansas, United States, the United States Geological Survey reported. The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 3.1 miles beneath the epicenter near Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas, USA, in the morning on Sunday 14 March 2021 at 7:02 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.0 as well. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Eastborough (pop. 770) located 2 miles from the epicenter, and Bellaire (pop. 3,900) 3 miles away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Wichita (pop. 390,000) located 5 miles from the epicenter, Andover (pop. 12,700) 6 miles away, Park City (pop. 7,600) 7 miles away, Valley Center (pop. 7,200) 11 miles away, Derby (pop. 23,500) 12 miles away, and Haysville (pop. 11,200) 12 miles away. In Newton (pop. 19,200, 24 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
