Moderate tremor of magnitude 4.3 just reported 36 km northwest of Erzincan, Turkey 4.3 quake 36 km west of Erzincan, Turkey, 20 Mar 2021 8:51 am (GMT +3) An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 occurred only 11 minutes ago 36 km northwest of Erzincan, Turkey, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 7 km beneath the epicenter near Erzincan, Turkey, in the morning on Saturday 20 March 2021 at 8:51 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the Kandilli Oservatory and Earthquake Research Institute in Istanbul (KOERI-RETMC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.3 as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Refahiye (pop. 5,600) located 28 km from the epicenter, Erzincan (pop. 114,000) 36 km away, Şiran (pop. 14,700) 41 km away, and Kelkit (pop. 23,900) 46 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Cimin (pop. 39,600) located 54 km from the epicenter, Koloneia (pop. 47,400) 76 km away, Gumushkhane (pop. 32,300) 79 km away, and Tunceli (pop. 29,100) 90 km away.
