A magnitude 4.7 earthquake near Ishqoshim, Ishkoshim, Gorno-Badakhshan, Tajikistan, was reported only 13 minutes ago by India's National Center for Seismology (NCS), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in this part of the world. The earthquake occurred at an intermediate to considerable depth of 233.5 km beneath the epicenter early morning on Tuesday 1 June 2021 at 6:26 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.

Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Khandūd (pop. 5,500) located 81 km from the epicenter. In Ishqoshim (pop. 26,000, 95 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
