Moderate magnitude 4.2 quake hits 21 km northeast of Khowy, Iran early morning

An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 occurred only 11 minutes ago 21 km northeast of Khowy, Iran, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter near Khowy, West Azerbaijan, Iran, early morning on Wednesday 23 June 2021 at 2:43 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.1 earthquake.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Khowy (pop. 175,400) located 21 km from the epicenter, and Qarah Ẕīā’ od Dīn (pop. 31,900) 32 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Culfa (pop. 10,800) located 54 km from the epicenter, Marand (pop. 124,200) 57 km away, and Salmās (pop. 81,600) 60 km away.
