Small earthquake of magnitude 3.4 just reported 29 miles northeast of Saint Paul, Alaska, United States 3.4 quake 19 Jul 7:38 pm (GMT -8) A magnitude 3.4 earthquake near Saint Paul, Kodiak Island, Alaska, USA, was reported only 10 minutes ago by the United States Geological Survey, considered the key international and national agency that monitors seismic activity in the US. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 2 miles beneath the epicenter early evening on Monday 19 July 2021 at 7:38 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.4 as well. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Saint Paul (pop. 6,300) located 29 miles from the epicenter. In Kodiak Station (pop. 1,300, 36 miles away), Womens Bay (pop. 720, 41 miles away), and Port Lions (pop. 200, 43 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
