Small magnitude 3.1 quake hits 19 miles southeast of Covelo, California, United States around noon 3.1 quake 2 Aug 12:58 pm (GMT -7) An earthquake of magnitude 3.1 occurred only 7 minutes ago 19 miles southeast of Covelo, California, United States, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 0.1 miles beneath the epicenter near Covelo, Mendocino County, California, USA, around noon on Monday 2 August 2021 at 12:58 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Covelo (pop. 1,300) located 19 miles from the epicenter. In Brooktrails (pop. 3,200, 30 miles away), Willits (pop. 4,900, 30 miles away), Orland (pop. 7,600, 39 miles away), and Ukiah (pop. 15,900, 40 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
