An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 occurred only 11 minutes ago 34 km southeast of Purwokerto, Indonesia, Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency reported.
The quake hit at an intermediate to considerable depth of 152 km beneath the epicenter near Purwokerto, Central Java, Indonesia, in the morning on Monday 2 August 2021 at 7:48 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.2 as well.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Kroya (pop. 23,300, 16 km away), Gombong (pop. 32,000, 17 km away), Banyumas (pop. 48,400, 22 km away), Sokaraja (pop. 66,500, 28 km away), Purbalingga (pop. 56,900, 34 km away), Purwokerto (pop. 217,200, 34 km away), and Wangon (pop. 35,500, 41 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
