An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 occurred only 12 minutes ago 47 km northwest of San Juan, Argentina, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported.
The quake hit at an intermediate depth of 137 km beneath the epicenter near San Juan, Departamento de Capital, Argentina, in the afternoon on Saturday 14 August 2021 at 4:48 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.7 earthquake.
