An earthquake of magnitude 3.5 occurred only 10 minutes ago 35 miles northwest of Tonopah, Nevada, United States, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 6.8 miles beneath the epicenter near Tonopah, Nye County, Nevada, USA, late at night on Saturday 28 August 2021 at 11:23 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.5 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Mina (pop. 160) located 19 miles from the epicenter. In Tonopah (pop. 2,500, 35 miles away), and Hawthorne (pop. 3,300, 47 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
