Small tremor of magnitude 3.1 just reported 12 miles northwest of Big Spring, Texas, United States3.1 quake 27 Oct 4:14 am (GMT -5) A magnitude 3.1 earthquake near Big Spring, Howard County, Texas, USA, was reported only 13 minutes ago by the United States Geological Survey, considered the key international and national agency that monitors seismic activity in the US. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 3.1 miles beneath the epicenter early morning on Wednesday, October 27th, 2021, at 4:14 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.1 earthquake as well. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Ackerly (pop. 230) located 11 miles from the epicenter, Big Spring (pop. 28,900) 12 miles away, and Stanton (pop. 2,900) 19 miles away. In Lamesa (pop. 9,400, 31 miles away), Midland (pop. 133,000, 37 miles away), and Snyder (pop. 11,800, 48 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
