Small 3.0 quake hits near Naalehu, Hawaii County, Hawaii, USA

An earthquake of magnitude 3.0 occurred 40 minutes ago 27 miles southeast of Naalehu, Hawaii, United States, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 5 miles beneath the epicenter near Naalehu, Hawaii County, Hawaii, USA, in the afternoon on Wednesday, December 15th, 2021, at 4:11 pm local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.0 as well.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Naalehu (pop. 870, 27 miles away), Pāhala (pop. 1,400, 28 miles away), Hawaiian Ocean View (pop. 4,400, 38 miles away), and Volcano Village (pop. 2,600, 39 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
