Magnitude 4.3 earthquake strikes near Faizabad, Faīẕābād, Badakhshan, Afghanistan 4.3 quake 15 Dec 2:47 am (GMT +4:30) An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 occurred early morning on Wednesday, December 15th, 2021, at 2:17 am local time near Faizabad, Faīẕābād, Badakhshan, Afghanistan, as reported by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ). According to preliminary data, the quake was located at an intermediate depth of 72 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.3 earthquake as well. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Rustāq (pop. 25,600) located 32 km from the epicenter, Chubek (pop. 19,600) 39 km away, Farkhor (pop. 21,700) 56 km away, Faizabad (pop. 44,400) 57 km away, Ārt Khwājah (pop. 18,600) 57 km away, Kŭlob (pop. 78,800) 64 km away, and Taloqan (pop. 64,300) 83 km away.
