Magnitude 3.0 earthquake strikes near Pontarlier, Doubs, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, France

Just 6 minutes ago, a 3.0-magnitude earthquake struck near Pontarlier, Doubs, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, France. The tremor was recorded in the morning on Tuesday, December 21st, 2021, at 9:56 am local time, at a very shallow depth of 5 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the Swiss Seismological Service (SED), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from France's Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS) which listed the quake at magnitude 2.9.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Morteau (pop. 6,300) located 1 km from the epicenter, Les Fins (pop. 2,800) 2 km away, Montlebon (pop. 1,800) 4 km away, and Villers-le-Lac (pop. 4,400) 4 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include La Chaux de Fonds (pop. 36,800) located 17 km from the epicenter, Neuenburg (pop. 31,300) 26 km away, and Pontarlier (pop. 20,300) 27 km away. In Yverdon-les-Bains (pop. 23,700, 33 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
