Just 33 minutes ago, a 3.2-magnitude earthquake struck near Big Spring, Howard County, Texas, USA. The tremor was recorded early evening on Friday, March 18th, 2022, at 7:45 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 2.9 miles below the surface.
The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 3.2 earthquake as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.2.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Ackerly (pop. 230) located 11 miles from the epicenter, Big Spring (pop. 28,900) 13 miles away, and Stanton (pop. 2,900) 20 miles away. In Lamesa (pop. 9,400, 30 miles away), Midland (pop. 133,000, 37 miles away), and Snyder (pop. 11,800, 48 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
