Magnitude 4.6 earthquake strikes near Huancayo, Provincia de Huancayo, Junin, Peru

Just 14 minutes ago, a 4.6-magnitude earthquake struck near Huancayo, Provincia de Huancayo, Junin, Peru. The tremor was recorded late at night on Saturday, April 9th, 2022, at 10:04 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 10 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 4.6 as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 4.8.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Macon (pop. 360) located 3 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Concepcion (pop. 11,300) located 38 km from the epicenter, Jauja (pop. 21,100) 40 km away, Huancayo (pop. 376,700) 51 km away, Chilca (pop. 73,400) 53 km away, Tarma (pop. 51,400) 61 km away, and Satipo (pop. 15,500) 70 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include La Oroya (pop. 33,300) located 80 km from the epicenter, and Santa Rosa (pop. 18,100) 83 km away.
